John Ruiz Retires
After 18-years of boxing, two-time world heavyweight champion John "The Quietman" Ruiz announced his retirement from the ring. Ruiz (44-9-1, 30 KOs) defeated three world champions – Evander Holyfield, Hasim Rahman and Tony Tucker while six of John’s nine career losses were to world champions.
“I’ve had a great career but it’s time for me to turn the page and start a new chapter of my life,” Ruiz said. “It’s sad that my final fight didn’t work out the way I wanted, but, hey, that’s boxing. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished with two world titles, 12 championship fights, and being the first Latino Heavyweight Champion of the World. I fought anybody who got in the ring with me and never ducked anyone. Now, I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family."
“I want to thank all of fans for staying in my corner through a long, up-and-down ride, as well as members of my family and team – my manager and legal advisor, Atty. Tony Cardinale, my brother, Eddie (cornerman), and Keith McGrath (strength-and conditioning coach) who’ve been with me so long. I also want to thank my trainer Miguel Diaz and (assistant) Richie Sandoval for teaching an old dog, new tricks, and my promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, the fairest promoter in boxing."
“I was proud to be the WBA champion twice and have the opportunity to fight 12 times for the WBA championship, the oldest and most respected organization in boxing. I’d particularly like to thank WBA President Gilberto Mendoza.”
The former champ now will head to Boston from Las Vegas where he would soon open up a boxing gym.

Remembering Edwin Valero
Best known as a knock-out artist in the ring, Venezuelan Edwin Valero had an unbeaten record. A guy so powerful that he knocked all of his 27 opponents out. But his streak ends as he ended his own life when he hanged himself yesterday morning in his cell at Carabobo, Venezuela. He was imprisoned after admitting the killing of his wife, Jennifer Carolina at Intercontinental Hotel in Valencia.
Valero's professional record at the time of his death was 27-0 with which he became one of the few world champions to finish undefeated along with Rocky Marciano, Ji Won Kim, Terry Marsh, Michael Loewe, Ricardo Lopez, Pichit Sitbangprachan, Harry Simon, Sven Ottke and Joe Calzaghe.

UFC 112: Silva vs. Maia
For most fans and UFC president Dana White, Anderson Silva defeated Demian Maia in a disappointing manner. They even thought that Silva also made a mockery of the sport.
White looked angry when he walked into the conference room for the post-fight interview and didn’t pull any punches when he began to speak.
"I’ll answer the questions about what a disgrace the main event was and what an embarrassment it is,” White said almost immediately upon taking the lectern postfight. “I don’t think I’ve ever been more embarrassed in 10 years of being in this business. It’s the first time I’ve ever walked out of a main event.”
Anderson Silva def. Demian Maia by unanimous decision
Frankie Edgar def. BJ Penn by unanimous decision
Matt Hughes def. Renzo Gracie via third-round TKO
Rafael Dos Anjos def. Terry Etim via submission (armbar)
Mark Munoz def. Kendall Grove by second-round TKO

Berto, Holyfield Stops Foes at 8th
The 47-year old and former 4-time heavyweight champion American Evander "Real Deal" Holyfield stopped the 41-year old Francois "White Buffalo" Botha of South Africa via 8th round TKO at Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Holyfield (43-10-2, 28 KO), won Botha's (47-5-3, 28 KO) WBF heavyweight belt after referee Russell Mora stopped the fight in the 8th when he saw Botha had enough beating form Evander. Botha did well in the first 5 rounds until he got hurt in the 6th and 7th. He went down in 8th and got up until the ref shoved it moments later for a Holyfield win.
While at Sunrise, Florida, Andre Berto of Haiti also scored an 8th round TKO over Puerto Rican WBO champ Carlos Quintana in a match billed as "Fighting for Haiti" at Bank Atlantic Center.
Berto (26-0, 20 KO), originally was scheduled to face Shane Mosley but had to back-out because of the disastrous earthquake that happened at his home country, proved to be too fast and too strong for Quintana which led to referee Tommy Kimmons to stop it at 2:16 of the round. Quintana (27-3, 21 KO), was deducted a point for a "rabbit punch" in the 3rd.
Portion of the proceeds from the tickets sold will go to the benefits of those who were affected of earthquake in Haiti.

Goldberg and Stone Cold's "One Last Match"
Two of the WWE's most beloved character, Goldberg and Stone Cold Steve Austin, hinted their return to the squared circle but didn't promise when or where, or even it's assurance.
Goldberg, was last seen on a WWE ring 6 years ago when he defeated the current UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar in an inter-promotional at Wrestlemania XX. He stated on his Twitter account last week that "BTW..my desire to return to the wrestling world in any capacity is based on the fact that if I continue to let my issues with the business stand in the way, I'd be very selfish. Times have changed and I don't work for people anymore.....I work with them. I control my destiny. Depriving the fans and my family would be a shame." . He followed that up in an interview with ESPN.com, he said that he's open to wrestling one last match at Wrestlemania XXVII at his hometown Atlanta, Georgia next year. "It's not something that I'm seeking out to do at 43 years old. But you know, WrestleMania is next year in Atlanta. Hulk Hogan and I put 43,000 people in the Georgia Dome with three days notice. I've got a fairly big following in Atlanta," Goldberg said. "Is it out of the realm of possibility? I'd say no."
While Steve Austin, seen occasionally on PPV events as special referee besides doing movies, said on an interview with Ottawa Sun that he has "absolutely" one last match left in him. "Do I have a match left in me? Absolutely. Do I want to do one more? I don't know. I'm very content with leaving well enough alone. I don't want to be 90% of what Stone Cold was."

The Rivals: Hopkins vs. Jones Jr., Ruiz vs. Haye
The battle of the 40s finally concluded as Bernard Hopkins finally avenged his 1993 loss to Roy Jones Jr. in what the experts say as an "ugly and odd" fight in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The two of their generations best boxer slugged it out in full 12 rounds in which "The Executioner" won with a unanimous victory. Two judges scored it 117-110 and the other one with a 118-109, all for Hopkins.
Hopkins, 45 (51-5-1, 32 KO), started early with too much offense that kept Jones' defense busy until the final two rounds where Jones, 41 (54-7, 40 KO) got the upper hand despite having an early cut in the right eye.
After the bout, the two were rushed in a local hospital where, according to reports, were advised by their friends to retire from the sport.
But with the win, Hopkins still plans to fight English Heavyweight Champion David Haye who defeated another aging former champion, John Ruiz via TKO in 2:01 of the 9th round held at Manchester, England.
Ruiz, a 2-time champion, dropped in the first 30-seconds of the fight and to the end of it, an two more on to the 5th and 6th round. Until in the 9th round where Ruiz's corner saw that Haye was too much powerful and faster than their fighter. Enough reasons for them to stop the fight and avoid more damages to the already beaten and bloodied Ruiz.
Haye, 29, improved his record to 24-1 with 22 KOs while retaining his belt. Ruiz, 38, dropped to 44-9-1-1 NC, with 30 KOs.
