Cotto To Face Chavez Jr. Next?

   Top Rank is already planning the next move for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. after his September 11th fight with Pavel Wolak. A world title shot against none other than Puerto Rican legend and current WBA super welterweight world champion Miguel Cotto looms on the horizon. That bout is penciled in for December 4th with Arlington, Texas and New York City being considered as possible fight locations.

   When Floyd Mayweather recently stayed at a luxury hotel in Isla Verde, Puerto Rico, and it was hinted that Floyd might hook up with WBA super welterweight world champion Miguel Cotto, fueling speculation that the the pair would meet to discuss a super fight between the two superstars. However, that meeting never took place. “A fight between Miguel and Floyd will be great for the sport and exciting for the fans around the world,” Bryan Pérez, Executive Director of Promociones Miguel Cotto told Fightnews.com. “Mayweather only have to say ‘yes’ to the challenge.”

Cotto Defeats Foreman "Twice" In One Night

   Former welterweight king Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico bounced back from his welterweight defeat from Manny Pacquiao and grabbed the super welterweight crown from the handicapped Yuri Foreman of Israel in a interesting night of slugfest at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York.

   Cotto, though not favored to win because of  his size disadvantage, unleashed the most of the heavier bombs to Foreman. But being the more bigger fighter, Foreman showed the more agile and faster fighter by moving and skipping around the ring.

   The two fighters looked sharp in the first six rounds, until the seventh came and Foreman stumbled by slipping twice due to wet canvass. The slip cause him to have a limping effect that Cotto took advantage. But "The Fighting Rabbi" continued to exchange blows with the Puerto Rican until someone threw a towel from Yuri's corner. But the referee cleaned up the ring again as he wanted the fight to continue because according to the rules, the towel must be waived from the fighter's corner as it may come from an unauthorized person if thrown. But Foreman still wanted to fight, continued until Cotto dropped him in the 0:42 of the 9th round. The referee halted the fight as Yuri had enough.

Former Champs Margarito, Cotto Set To Return

   Former welterweight champions Antonio Margarito of Mexico and Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto sets to return against different opponents in hopes to bring back their lost glory in the boxing ring.

  Margarito, 32, is set to face Roberto Garcia on a 10-round, 154 lbs limit at Mexico on May 8, while Cotto, 29, will face WBA champ Yuri Foreman, also at 154, to be held at Yankee Stadium in New York.

   Yesterday, Cotto announced via his Twitter account that legendary hall of famer Emmanuel Steward (Dela Hoya, Holyfield, Lewis) will be his new head trainer replacing nutrionist turned trainer Joe Santiago.

   Originally scheduled against Carson Jones in Pacquiao - Clottey undercard, Top Rank suddenly announced that the "Tijuana Tornado" would not return for unspecified reasons. Prior to that, Margarito was suspended due to the alleged tampering of his hand-wraps against Shane Mosley last January 2009.
