UFC 117: Silva Retains

    Losing nearly every round against challenger Chad Sonnen, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva retained his title with a win by tapout in the fifth and final round. Controlling four of five rounds, Sonnen was on his way to victory when Silva sank in an armbar, forcing the tapout at 3:10 of the fifth.
In the co-main event, a lackluster fight, Jon Fitch defeated Thiago Alves by unanimous decision with scores of 30-37 x 3, opening the doors for a possible rematch with welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre.




   In other results: Clay Guida stopped Rafael Dos Anjos at 1:51 of round three by tapout;  former champ Matt Hughes won with a technical submission over Ricardo Almeida at 3:15 of round one; Junior Dos Santos won a unanimous decision over Roy Nelson, scores of 30-27 twice and 30-26; Rick Story TKO’d Dustin Hazelett at 1:15 of round two; Phil Davis won by unanimous decision over Rodney Wallace; Johnny Hendricks TKO’d Charlie Brenneman at :40 of round two; Tim Boetsch decisioned Todd Brown, scores of 29-28 x 3; Stefan Struve TKO’d Christian Morecraft at :22 of round one; and Dennis Hallman scored a unanimous decision over Ben Saunders, 29-28, 30-27 and 29-28.
